Delhi Metro

Delhi Metro is the rapid metro system serving Delhi and NCR (Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad). Delhi Metro is the first new age mass transportation in India, with 2.6 million people commuting every day. It is fully AC, always on time, comfortable and secure mode of transport. Delhi Metro is made and operated by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Delhi. It came into existence in the year 1995 and the construction work of Delhi Metro started in the year 1998 and finally in 2002, it started its operation with one line between Shahdara and Tis Hazari.

Red Line – Red Line was the first line which became operational by DMRC. Red Line covers 25.09 km of distance between West Delhi and East Delhi. Red Line starts at Rithala Station (West Delhi) and ends at Dilshad Garden ( East Delhi). It covers 21 stations, out of which Kashmiri Gate is interconnecting station for Yellow Line and Inderlok is interconnecting station for Green Line. This line connects important places of old Delhi (Kashmiri Gate, Tis Hazari), East Delhi (Shahdara, Welcome) and West Delhi (Pitampura, Rohini). This Red Line of DM has made some of the far off places like Rithala, Dilshad Garden, Shastri Park more reachable and accessible.

Yellow Line – Yellow Line was the second route of DM to become operational after Red Line. Yellow Line records highest passenger footfall, as it covers heart of Delhi – Connaught Place, Delhi University, wholesale market - Chandani Chowk, Biggest Government Hospital – AIIMS and hub of leading IT companies – Gurgaon. Yellow Line was made operational in five steps and it connects North Delhi to Gurgaon via Old Delhi, Central Delhi and South Delhi. This line’s interconnecting stations are Rajiv Chowk – which connects Blue Line, Central Secretariat - which connects Violet Line, New Delhi railway station – which connects Orange line and Kashmir Gate – which connects Red Line. It covers 49 km and has 34 stations. This Line is the busiest line of DM.

BLUE LINE  Blue Line was the first line which was connected to any NCR area. It covers 50km stretch between Noida City center and Dwarka Sector 21. Blue Line divides from Yamuna Bank into two separate routes- one towards Vaishali and another towards Noida City Center. This line has 44 stations from Dwarka to Noida City Center, and its branch line towards vaishali consists of 7 more stations. This line connects Railway Station – Anand Vihar Raiway Station and NCR region’s Noida - which has become hub of many leading companies. The interconnecting stations on this line are Kirti Nagar, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Yamuna Bank.

Blue Line (Branch Line) extends from   Yamuna Bank to Vashali and it covers 6km(approx) distance. This line 5 stations and maximum crowd board on this line from Laxmi Nagar metro station.

Green Line Green line is the fifth line of Delhi Metro running between Mundka and Inderlok. It covers total length of 18.6 km and has 16 stations in North and West Delhi. This Line is totally elevated line with all the stations along with NH10. A Branch of Green Line has been initiated till Kirti Nagar. This branch has three metro stations and was made to save time and fare for passengers.

Violet Line Violet Line connects important stations of South Delhi to rest of the Delhi. It covers total distance of 22.8 km between ITO and Escorts Mujesar. In 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi, this line served as major passenger carrier as it connects Delhi’s largest stadium – Jawahar Lal Stadium. It also connects South Delhi’s leading market – Lajpat Nagar and Khan Market to rest of the Delhi. In later phases of Metro, Violet Line connects Faridabad to Delhi. There are two interchanging stations on this line- Central Secretariat and Mandi House.

Orange Line Orange Line or Airport Express Line is DMRC’s fastest line built in collation with reliance Infra. It was opened in the year 2011 and has total of 22.7 km route to cover. It starts from New Delhi railway Station and ends at Dwarka Sector 21. There are only six stations on the line – New Delhi railway Station, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity, Indira Gandhi International Airport and Dwarka Sector 21. All these six stations work as City Airport Terminals. At these stations, luggage and people are checked as per Airport Security Guidelines and have skilled special security force to ensure proper security of passengers.

Network -: Delhi Metro is considered as 12th largest metro networks in the world in terms of its length. It covers the network of 213 km in Delhi and NCR region. It is voted as the best mode of transport between Delhi and NCR regions such as Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad, and Vaishali. It has a total of 160 stations along with 6 stations in Airport Link Express. The total number of trains running under Delhi Metro is 216. They comprise of 4, 6 and 8 coaches. DMRC is adding more number of trains with advanced features every year.

Delhi Metro Station Facilities -:

Delhi metro Stations are fully AC stations with world class facilities. The entry has efficient security checks with the latest machinery such as Baggage Scanners, Metal Detectors, Door Frames, and competent CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) Security Staff. The stations have Lifts and Escalators for easy and comfortable transit between station entry and platforms. These escalators are specially designed with the unique guard that protects loose clothes getting trapped in escalators such as saree and dupatta. All the stations of Delhi metros are disabled friendly and have special strips pathway indicators for visually impaired people. Wheel Chairs are also available for sick and differently-able people. These stations are equipped with latest token vending machines, entry gateways, metro card recharge machines. In addition to these regular features, DMRC has added Toilets, ATMs, Eating Joints and Shops of various brands in high passenger volume stations. All the stations have CCTV Cameras and are always monitored by CISF team. Nearly 5200 CCTV cameras are installed in all the stations ensuring passengers safety. Special Ladies CISF Staff is appointed for helping women passengers. For Women Passenger, First coach of every metro train is reserved and there is a penalty to those who do not follow this rule. Other Facilities -:

Among other facilities, Delhi Metro provides Parking Facilities, Feeder Buses, and Bicycle Rent Facility to their passengers. Till now 91 Metro Stations have parking facilities so that commuters can park their two-wheelers or four-wheelers and enjoy the metro ride. They have monthly and per day parking charges plan for their commuters. They also provide Feeder Buses from Metro Stations to different routes for convenient commuting of the passengers. These buses are small buses that have the capacity of carrying 20-30 people. These buses have First Aid Boxes and fire Extinguishers and runs of environment-friendly fuel – CNG. Apart from eco-friendly buses, DMRC had come up with bicycle renting services at various stations, where commuters can rent bicycle and commute via this complete environment-friendly mode of transport.

Delhi Metro Parking Facilities

Over the years, Delhi Metro has become a lifeline of Delhi. It has joined far ends of Delhi from north to east and south to west. DM has also joined NCR regions’ Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Vaishali, and Faridabad. Delhi Metro ride is convenient, comfortable and cost-effective. DM has eased Delhi’s traffic and lowered congestion on road. In addition, DMRC offers parking facility at many of its stations, so that users can park their vehicles at take metro ride to their office and workplaces. This move of DMRC has proved really beneficial for commuters. Many commuters travel from far ends of Delhi via Metro and park their vehicles at Metro Stations. To cite an example, Number of People park their vehicles at Yamuna Bank and take metro rides till their office at Noida and vice-versa. Users can park their two-wheelers – bi-cycle- scooter and bike, three-wheeler – Auto rickshaw and four-wheelers – cars and taxis at Delhi Metro’s Parking lot. Fares are charged on hourly basis. DMRC has tied up with various contractors to take care of these parking lots. These contractors are responsible for proper maintenance and security of vehicles. DMRC’s parking lots are trusted by passengers and each day thousands of people use them.

Parking Fare -:

DMRC charge hourly amount for parking. It works in the multiple of 6. For Example, for first 6 hours, the parking rates will be same and for another 6 hours (i.e- 12 hours), the rate will be same and so on. The parking rates also depend on the type of vehicle. For Example, parking price for Car is almost thrice the amount of bicycle. One can also choose Monthly Payment Option (Monthly Parking Pass), which is cost effective and handy for daily passengers. DMRC has constructed parking facilities at 80% of its stations. Each route or Line has parking facility at major stations or wherever sufficient space was available. In short, Parking Facility is available at following station -:

A total of 91 metro stations has parking facility. To avail Monthly Parking Pass Facility, one has to be a regular “Smart Card” user of Delhi Metro. If his/her Smart Card has not been used for 20 days, he/she can not avail Monthly Parking Pass facility. For any queries and complaints regarding Parking, one can contact respective Metro Station’s manager or Customer Care Center.

 

Trial Runs On Delhi Metro's IP Extension-Maujpur Stretch Begin

Delhi metro started the trial run of 10 km long IP extension - communication maujpur Delhi Metro route. On this corridor delhi Metro has tested new signalling Technology and communication train control system.

This will be known as Pink line and it is 59 km long corridor. It is a part of the phase III project and today Delhi Metro has conducted trial run. IP Extension-Maujpur Line consist of station that consists of IP Extension, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur.

Delhi Metro is using innovative technology of communication based train control system. During this phase Delhi Metro also check the response of trains at different speed and braking using the new technology of operations control centre.

This section will have 3 interchange stations that include anand Vihar karkar Duma and welcome station.
